EXPERT RESPONSE
That is going to depend 100% on your existing system or your new system. Gateways also have some additional features that may or may not be part of the PBX including universal messaging (which I think is a highly underrated tool), SIP URL dialing, call routing so that if you are not at your desk the call will forward to your cell or another number, etc. The important thing is to make sure that any features are;
1) needed or can bring demonstrable benefit
2) provide a good return on their investment cost.
Also check the interfaces and communications lines you will require. If you are using VoIP, a good rool of thumb is 64k per conversation that will occur simultaneously. You can run a report on your existing system and go to the Erlang calculator on the web to assure you have enough capacity.
